Bringing Community Online with Two Events: Talking Circle (3/20) and Fairy Tale Friday (4/3)

In these extraordinary and isolating times, we have worked to adapt quickly to maintain our community virtually, through an active online presence, as much as possible for the duration of the emergency. We have heard from you—and the board fully agrees—that our community is more valuable than ever to all of us, and potentially even to a wider circle. Change is calling us, and we are answering!

To get us started, we are excited to organize a virtual/online talking circle on “Community & Psyche During COVID-19” for next Friday, March 20, 2020, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, the normal gathering time for our lectures, using Zoom online conferencing. There will be no charge to join in this first virtual gathering.

The circle will be opened by Co-Presidents Bette Joram and Ryan Biava. We are excited to see you and hear from you about your experiences over the last two weeks and listen to what psyche is saying. All members will be able to participate meaningfully.

We are also gauging interest in a virtual Fairy Tale Friday hosted by Stephanie Gierman, Jungian Analyst, on its normal evening of Friday, April 3, beginning at 6:30 PM.

These and future online community events will be held using the popular online conferencing service Zoom (see info on testing your setup). Zoom allows for video and audio using your computer (or, if you do not have video on your computer, your iPhone or Android smartphone). You do not need to set up an account, and Zoom is free of charge to you—though there is still a financial cost to the Society to be able to bring these events to our community.

We recognize that our membership, like our broader world, is filled with people who are more and less comfortable with technology. And yet, the times are asking us to be open and nimble in order to keep our community alive and our Society financially viable in what will be leaner times over the months ahead.

If you wish to participate in either or both events, please click here and fill out the form. We will contact you with further login information and preparatory materials for the sessions.

We are excited to see you online and to explore this new space together.
